Consent, TCF 2.3 and what it means for your fill rate

A practical read of the consent framework from the publisher side: what changes, what breaks, and how to keep European fill from falling off a cliff.

The compliance side of consent is well documented. The commercial side — what a badly configured CMP does to your European revenue — is not discussed nearly enough.

No TC string, no bid

Under TCF 2.3, we process personal data only when a valid Transparency and Consent string is present. If your CMP fires after the ad request, or fails to pass the string into the wrapper, buyers receive a request with no consent signal and most simply will not bid.

Check three things today

  1. The CMP loads and resolves before the first bid request, not in parallel with it.
  2. Regulad is listed as a disclosed vendor in your CMP configuration.
  3. The purposes you rely on are actually declared — basic ads, ad performance measurement, audience insights and service improvement.

Consent rate is a design problem

The gap between a 40% and an 80% consent rate is worth more than most yield optimisations you will run this year, and it is decided almost entirely by the wording and layout of the first screen. Test it like you would test a paywall.

Our full data-processing disclosure lives in the privacy policy, including the legitimate-interest balancing test and retention periods.
